I am a clinical health psychologist based in Jacksonville, FL, with specialty training in health behavior and management of acute and chronic health conditions. I work as a consultation-liaison psychologist in a medical hospital and have spent my professional life collaborating with a wide variety of healthcare professionals. Mental health providers in particular experience high rates of burnout, which impacts our personal and professional lives. I am passionate about supporting fellow mental health providers in their journey towards mental and physical well-being through positive behavior change. I am excited to share knowledge to “help the helpers” live fuller, more meaningful lives. My own wellness practices include yoga, caring for my plants, walking on the beach and playing with my dog.
I am a bilingual, Puerto Rican-American, born and raised in south Florida. I have a doctorate in clinical psychology with specialty training in health behavior. I am also an associate professor of psychology, a researcher, and a group fitness instructor. Prior to becoming a health and wellness consultant, I spent much of my time working within large hospital systems, providing individuals with tools to manage chronic illnesses. During that time, I became passionate about helping others achieve better mental and physical health. However, what struck me the most was the unmet need and support in helping my fellow healthcare providers live healthier and more fulfilling lives. I, myself, struggled to find ways to successfully navigate being a professional in a “helping profession” while still taking care of my physical and mental health. This led me to take a deeper dive into the extensive literature documenting high rates of burnout and personal and professional dissatisfaction among healthcare providers. As a result, I felt that my skills would be best utilized assisting healthcare providers live healthier and happier lives. I truly believe that this will have an impact on individuals quality of life while also having a large ripple effect and positively impact the healthcare system as a whole.
Adaptive Wellness was founded by Maria Anastasiades, PsyD and Vilmarie Báez, PsyD to offer support for mental health professionals. Maria and Vilmarie met in graduate school, where they saw firsthand the prevalence and effects of burnout amongst those working within the helping professions. Their shared passion for health and wellness led to the creation of Adaptive Wellness with the goal of promoting personal and professional wellbeing for mental health professionals' unique needs.
We offer evidence based, virtual education resources to empower individuals to make meaningful change that increases personal and professional wellness. Our educational resources emphasize the unique challenges of working as mental health professionals.
